Up to date news on what our developers are working on and where they are at.
There are still some minor bugs; please don't hesitate to report it. I try to fix them as soon as possible.
@215: This should work now (Does it?)
@216 and @217: fixed; thanks
great going! I just saw the changes...
Thanks for the fast and efficient fixes, Jay :)
Thanks for the error reporting Michael. It is really helpful.
Great changes, well done and thanks
A suggestion more. I think we need to improve the search engine interface.
As we can see in the recent searches, users don't know how to find images with two keywords ( using AND ) and maybe they are not easy finding what they are looking for. Is very complicated to add other different window for the optional second keyword ? (Then the search engine could automatically add the AND)
218: my 215 seems to be fixed now :-)
@223 Something like that has been on my mind for a while now. Personally I was thinking about an 'advanced search'-button.
Jay and I haven't figured out how we want it to work yet though.
Lennie the advanced search button could be a perfect tool but always thinking that users who are looking for "red cars" are not going to type "red AND cars".
What about just "red+cars"? Lots of folk are used to doing that sort of thing when searching using Google.
Kevin I think is more explicit a second box with the legend : optional second keyword.
Anyway we need improve the search because the number of images is growing.
We have around 56000 images, if you type "red cars" you obtain 5660 images as result and that is a 10 per cent of the total images at the site. If you know how is working the search engine and type "red AND cars" the result is 125 images only.
I like the new design but have a few suggestions:
The name of the author of the "cover" photo should be mentioned somewhere
I miss the number of comments under a photo. In my opinion, there is no need for two icons: authors profile and gallery . One of them is enough, because it will lead to the other.. Instead, that place could be used for the number of comments
I also agree that there should be a short instruction about how to search for terms with more than one word
Oh, one more small little thingy: i miss the link to the homepage on rgb logo. i know that there is menu just under it, but nevertheless i sometimes miss it :)
And another one: I just became aware that - as i am concerned - light blue box which surrounds image in image detail page is too strong. When photo is "busy" with color and shapes, and have not some amount of free space around edges, that box affect my experience and feel of the photo.
But i don't know - it could be just me :)
******
oh, you made this very fast :)
thank you
When I click the "sign in", I get the small box - and then type med name and code; but if I just press "enter" on my keyboard nothing happens. I have to click the "sign in" - am I the only one with that?
No, the same with me.
Message withdrawn - problem solved
@230:Tomislav , yes I added the link and changed the blue color a little bit. The color was 'too much'
@231John, thanks for reporting this problem. It is fixed now.
The discussion on using "categories" more than before is now continuing here:
http://www.rgbstock.com/forum/msg/588/1
As I suggested already above @211:
I would also love to see another page named "Categories" where all categories could be seen at one glance. It is quite difficult to get an overview over the long list of categories by scrolling in the drop-down-field. Every category should be clickable in this list of categories, of course, and it would be fine to have the number of photos in this category in brackets behind the name of the category.
This Categories-Page could also be included in the top blue navigation line, probably between "Random" and "Upload photos".
Addition:
Now, to get categories more widely used, a very important addition would be to show the categories each photo is assigned to on every individual photo page.
This would enable the user to get similar photos (of the same category) displayed with one click :)

New Bug with RSS Feeds - The Forums Last Messages feed seems to be broken (shows only a few of the most recent messages)
--MIchael
234: the problem I mentioned in 231 is not solved. Using Explorer 8.0.6
@237: John, I will look into it;
@236: Michael: I do not see anything special about the RSS. Can you please explain, or send me a screen capture? (info[@]rgbstock.com)
Jay, currently the RSS works absolutely fine. At some occasions I have noticed that only the most recent one or two threads were listed instead of the longer normal listing. Will send a screen capture when it occurs again.
