Up to date news on what our developers are working on and where they are at.

290. jazza1 August 2011, 10:17 GMT +02:00

Thanks for your input. I'll think about it....

291. micromoth1 August 2011, 13:53 GMT +02:00

I agree with @287, 288 and 289. A font style with serifs (such as Times New Roman) is meant to lead the eye along the lines of large blocks of text. It's not really meant for short phrases. Additionally, I think Times New Roman looks rather formal and "old school", whereas with RGB Stock surely we want to look contemporary. All the other fonts used on the site are sans-serif and modern; Times New Roman does look out of place amongst them, IMHO.

This "views" counter is really a nice thingie!

293. jazza12 August 2011, 23:34 GMT +02:00

@292: Thank you;
@291: I changed the font from Georgia to Lucida Grande

294. micromoth23 August 2011, 13:11 GMT +02:00

Looks much better, Jay. Kudos.

295. GerbenVanErkelens26 August 2011, 20:15 GMT +02:00

Is there something wrong with the photo management part? Photos aren't viewed in a while it seems....or added :D

296. jazza26 August 2011, 22:54 GMT +02:00

There is nothing wrong, but it is summer time and things are a little bit slow right now. Sorry for the inconvenience

No problem :D I thought it was maybe an error or something :-)

Our Alexa rank dropped another ten thousand sites and we are in the 60s now!!

The Alexa WayBack Machine also shows info on us now. You can see what the site looked like when we started. (lower right column of Alexa page)

This is great news Cris!

I'm just a little baffled why Alexa thinks that someone interested in RGB Stock might also be interested in radiator covers. Lol!

We have a new upload section, Lets hope we can get more photos on line and attract more new photographers.

301. Ayla8714 September 2011, 8:16 GMT +02:00

Looks very appealing and easy to handle. Well done, Jay!
I think you are right, making uploads as easy as possible is a great benefit for the site :)

302. xymonau14 September 2011, 11:22 GMT +02:00

Jay, is there a limit on the number of images that can be uploaded at once?

303. jazza14 September 2011, 22:02 GMT +02:00

@302: Dez, there is an upload limit of 10 images at one time

304. xymonau14 September 2011, 23:23 GMT +02:00

Thanks, Jay. I think that's a wonderful idea!

305. xymonau15 September 2011, 12:15 GMT +02:00

How does the "copy values" button work?

306. johnnyberg15 September 2011, 12:21 GMT +02:00

@300: it is very nice, only a little too large font in the dropdown menus for the categories.

@305: when you have uploaded more than one images and filled in the text etc. for the first one (or which you want to fill in for) and then press "copy values", then all the text and the categories settings is copied to the other images in the process.

307. xymonau15 September 2011, 13:42 GMT +02:00

Thanks, John. I tried it, and it works wonderfully. Can I say that I like the enlarged text in the categories? My eyesight is poor, and the words are a lot easier to read.

308. Ayla8717 September 2011, 11:21 GMT +02:00

I'm very happy, too. I think it works faster and more efficient than the previous version. Great improvement :)

@300 I too like the new upload functionality. @305 But was also confused by the "Copy values" - its very useful, but not entirely intuitive how it works. I tried pressing "copy" beside the image I wanted to copy values to, rather than beside the image I wanted to copy values from... Also, how does it work if you've uploaded 10 images of (say) two different subjects - does it allow you to fill in keywords etc for the first image, copy to the rest, then scroll down to the first of the other subject and edit those then copy those to the images of that subject - or will any press of "copy" copy to *all* the other images, potentially losing changes? Maybe tick boxes to select images to copy values to or something? Hmm....

310. Ayla8723 October 2011, 11:04 GMT +02:00

Since there is this new upload functionality I have always uploaded only similar images at once, where it would make sense to user the copy values-function.

311. xymonau23 October 2011, 13:11 GMT +02:00

I think you can only copy the one set of information to the whole bunch of images. To me, it's still far superior to the copy and pasting I had to do previously. I suggest you upload groups of files if you want to use that feature. Otherwise, you can still fillin the forms as previously. If uploading similar images, just put in all the common keywords and descriptions, copy, then edit for differences, or to add a numerical sequence to the same title.

312. ColinBrough23 October 2011, 14:19 GMT +02:00

@310,@311, yeah, had worked most of those out - its the slightly non-intuitive interface I think I was commenting on. When I used the bulk-upload feature on SXC it allowed you to select which images you were applying changes to keywords/descriptions/categories/etc to.... 10 images is more than I think I'd ever want on one subject, though admittedly less than a "bulk" upload...

Just a quick update:

Our site was getting so many visitors that, the site needed extra work to keep it running at optimum speed.

We will be having some nightly downtime (Central European Time) because of a memory upgrade soon. The day isn't yet picked. I'll post an update.

Frequent searches should now be faster and for foreign visitors from North America, South America, Asia/Australia and so on should now be getting images from Dallas, USA instead of the Netherlands in Europe.

So the site should be loading faster for most people.

Sorry about the short interruptions (errors on yesterday and today) on the site because of all the extra work we did.

Let me know if you see any problems.
