What are you celebrating today?

1. weirdvis5 March 2011, 9:46 GMT +01:00

Always a popular thread at the other place.

I'll kick this one off.

It was my birthday the other day. I was expecting a bottle of my favourite perfume (I've been dropping hints I was running low) and woke up to a Land Rover Freelander on the drive. I've always wanted a 4x4 and now I've finally got one courtesy of my Mum and my Significant Other Half.

Okay, so it's not a new one and it's not an all singing, all dancing model, but that doesn't bother me. It's a freaking Freelander, dudes!

Mine's a white soft top like the one in the foreground.

Downside - I'll have to fund my own bottle of smellies. Oh hold on - there's Mother's Day coming up...

Hi, Scott. Nice to see you in person!

219. assiewin11 January 2012, 10:45 GMT +01:00

not really something to celebrate but 49 days to go before being out of a job. :(
reason being that our biggest client is not renewing their contract and the company will have to let go of around 150 staff.

220. xymonau11 January 2012, 13:02 GMT +01:00

Oh, wow - that's terrible! I hope you find something else really quickly. I was unemployed for six months, 18 months ago. It was pretty difficult. So I sympathise.

221. weirdvis11 January 2012, 18:06 GMT +01:00

Bummer news, Aschwin. I hope something good comes along for you quickly. :0(

222. gesinek11 January 2012, 20:51 GMT +01:00

I agree with Lynne. I wish you all the best for your job search.

223. assiewin12 January 2012, 10:13 GMT +01:00

Well, at least I will have time to study. I am doing accountancy and photography. Maybe I'll start my own photo studio in a year or two.... but until then, I'll be needing a job. Anybody has a good job offer? Preferrably something with creditcard disputes/ chargebacks and in The Netherlands :-)

224. scottsnyde13 January 2012, 15:17 GMT +01:00

No ideas there assiewin, but good luck.

I'm celebrating 2 things...

One, I begin my graduate school classes next week. (Getting my Masters degree in Deaf Education and American Sign Language .)

Two, since I haven't been on RGB in a while, I have lots of new photos to upload. I only got about a 1/3 of them on 2 days ago... gonna try to get more uploaded today.

(PS... I'm done with photos of brides and pretty girls, I've uploaded enough that no designer should probably never need another one... Now to brainstorm up new subjects.)

225. assiewin14 January 2012, 22:46 GMT +01:00

Don't worry Scott, I'm confident I wil find another job soon.

Good luck with your study.

My Swirly Tree image has just hit 1000 downloads! :D

229. xymonau24 January 2012, 10:05 GMT +01:00

I was waiting for the 1K, Lynne. Congratulations! And well-deserved, too.

Christine, congratulations on the next milestone! You have some excellent illustrations.

230. johnnyberg24 January 2012, 15:12 GMT +01:00

I am celebrating that I already have the next book about photography ready; that is the text is now written, and I only need about 15 more pictures to have it all completed. The publisher has already accepted the book, so that will be book number 2 in a (hopefully) growig row of books from me ;-)

First book was about HDR-photography.

This time it is a themebook about holiday-photography. Including both techniques and some ideas about how to make pictures "work" and finding the best ideas for motives and model poses. The target group is people who doesn't really care too much about techniques and cameras, but want to have better holiday pictures.

@230 - Another book out so soon, John? That's real dedication to your art. Well done! :D

@226 - keep 'em coming Christine. You're doing great. :D

232. xymonau25 January 2012, 10:36 GMT +01:00

John, congratulations! You must be so good at what you do. What's the name of your first book? Is it in English?

233. gesinek25 January 2012, 10:57 GMT +01:00

Congrats from me too John. I' also interested in how the books are named and in which language they are available (especially the first one).

234. happyture25 January 2012, 11:17 GMT +01:00

Congratulations and good luck, if its not too expensive i might even buy a copy as long as you sign it John ??? :O)

235. johnnyberg25 January 2012, 15:39 GMT +01:00

Thank you all.

#231: Yep. The publisher har a new strategy for books about photography and that matches what I think about books for photography. So I think I might as weel cast while the iron is hot.

#232 and 233: The first book is called "HDR photography wirth Photomatix", it is in danish only. But might come in english too. Its an E-book. The link to the publisher is: http://www.libris.dk/produkt/High_dynamic_range-fotografering.htm

The second book about Holiday Photography will also be an E-book to begin with. If it makes sence (for the publisher) a paperversion might be printed. I hope!

234: It really not expensive. About 10 euros, about $13. E-books are a little hard to sign ;-)

236. Groningen25 January 2012, 19:28 GMT +01:00

wonderful news johnnyberg; getting a book with your own photos published is indeed something to celebrate!!

will the ebook be available in the iTunes store?

237. xymonau26 January 2012, 1:08 GMT +01:00

Thanks, John, I'll look for it.

238. crisderaud26 January 2012, 3:39 GMT +01:00

Great work John. Glad you got the opportunity to publish.

Maybe you could do a guide on classic lenses and how to adapt them to digital photography.

239. xymonau26 January 2012, 9:12 GMT +01:00

Australia Day.

aka Invasion Day

240. johnnyberg26 January 2012, 12:19 GMT +01:00

#236: For the moment it is only in pdf. I think the publisher is planing to get it into iTunes too. Thay have talked about it. And the I know it is their strategy to get all into iTunes :-)

#237: Thank you :-)

#238: Thank you and thanks for the good idea. I guess you have noticed that I actually uses a wide range of old lenses from the "manual days". Many of the old lenses are just great on DSLR's. If you haven't seen, I have a number of reviews of old lenses in my homepage: www.hdrfoto.dk. Click into "review". Most of the reviews are in both Danish and English :-)

241. johnnyberg26 January 2012, 18:16 GMT +01:00

# 238: I have just written a brief guide about old lenses and DSLR's. It is available in pdf-format at my homepage: www.hdrfoto.dk

Enjoy!
