site with stolen photos

1. lusi1 January 2011, 23:36 GMT +01:00

On this site this user http://depositphotos.com/portfolio-1001397.html is selling images from all of us. I just sent a message thorugh the contact form to the site administrator, but perhaps you should do that too.

2. dlritter2 January 2011, 3:14 GMT +01:00

That site looks like a clone or affiliate of fotolia.com

3. xymonau2 January 2011, 3:37 GMT +01:00

Oh, that's so disappointing. Why do these sites just accept anyone's uploads? I can't see mine on those pages, but it's a big site, and I can see many RGB and sxc images there.

4. greekgod2 January 2011, 11:14 GMT +01:00

hey, my images aren't there. i'm sad and offended at the same time. bwahahahahahahahahaha....!
but seriously, that site is sad for doing that...

5. StariSob2 January 2011, 11:50 GMT +01:00

dang, what a blunt thief...

6. lusi2 January 2011, 16:09 GMT +01:00

for all of you disappointed and offended :), there is another guy on the same site selling stolen photos (some are identical to the ones of fredos!). Can you imagine the site accepting same images from different "photographers" and not noticing it?

7. tinneketin2 January 2011, 20:32 GMT +01:00

He is selling also images of me ! :o(

8. tinneketin2 January 2011, 20:57 GMT +01:00

I contacted deposit photos and Nirvanas and asked to remove his gallery, he is selling images from me and others people !
Not one but a lot of images !

9. xymonau2 January 2011, 23:13 GMT +01:00

That one has even more. Clearly this site has no morals, either. Are there any honest stock sites anywhere?

The solution might be to post only smaller images with a note to say larger images are available on request. And maybe we could have a choice to have a notification requirement prior to downloading. It won't stop abuse, but it would slow some people. I think anyone who is found to be downloading so many images needs to be challenged about it and have their downloads limited.

I'm thinking these two profiles are the same person.

http://depositphotos.com/view_profile.php?id=1024109

I have reported both of them.

I think we have yet another ripper on depositphotos.com

I'm going to try calling these idiots tomorrow.

Here's the rest of the gallery.

I also found 12 of my works in the "Nirvanas" gallery... for me it is not acceptable.
User "Ladushka" used my floral element:

this is OK, I think :)

13. xymonau3 January 2011, 10:21 GMT +01:00

Robert, it might be okay, but it is recognisable, they didn't ask (I assume), and they are making money directly by selling your image.

Nirvana has sold over 200 images. All money that belongs to someone else.

Dave, thank you for calling them. That's the best way to put the wind up them - live on the phone.

14. tinneketin3 January 2011, 12:32 GMT +01:00

I think they removed the gallery of Nirvanas

15. dlritter3 January 2011, 12:48 GMT +01:00

I am getting responses back from the messages I sent to depositphotos.com about these thieves.

The wording in the emails is a bit "odd" but they seem to be disabling these accounts fairly quickly.

Someone from SXC informed my (gemera) that one of my pictures was on there.
I send a mail to deposit .... waiting for response.

17. tinneketin3 January 2011, 13:19 GMT +01:00

I have received an email from DepositPhotos:

Hello!

The account of this user is already blocked.

Thank you for informing us.

In case you have information about other cases of this type please mail it to us.

Regards,
Michel

This person's depositphotos.com gallery is supposedly composed of 3D renders.

http://depositphotos.com/portfolio-1003388.html

Some of these actually look like typical 3D renders but this image

http://depositphotos.com/1720581/stock-photo-3d-render-of-light-bulb-on-white.html

seems to be a copy of this image with the contrast slightly altered

http://www.sxc.hu/photo/190520

This leads me to doubt the rest of this person's gallery.

Can anyone recognize any of the other images in this person's gallery as ripped images?

Dave

19. StariSob4 January 2011, 9:33 GMT +01:00

hm, i don't know...
Images do look the same, though it is possible to make 3d render look the same.
I cannot recognize any other images in his gallery, so I would conclude they are genuine.
